vertical-visions.de becomes LarsMichelsen.com
I just moved my personal webpage to a new domain: LarsMichelsen.com. This is a brand new domain.
Why did I do this? When I began to wrote stories for this page I wrote them completely in German, with the time I recognized it would be better to write more pages in English. I decided to write all new contents in English. My main reason for writing english content is to reach a wider audience and since I mostly write about IT topics here, I act on the assumption most of the readers understand my English posts.
Having this situation it was clear to me that I should move the page from the German .de domain to an international domain. And while I’m at it, I also changed some other things. Read about the changes and my thoughts about this …
First I changed the permalink structure to /%category%/%postname%/.
Second I restructured the content of the page. I spitted the contents into three areas:
a) The main page: Will contain misc contents
b) The Nagios subpage: Contains all contents about Nagios
c) The HTPC subpage: Contains all contents about my HTPC project
The main page will contain all the other misc stuff which can not be allocated to a subpage, plus it contains links to the topics on the subpages. Maybe I create more subpages in future when I realize that it is worth it for some other topic.
Splitting the contents results in several advantages:
a) The current major topics have focused subpages. No colorful mix of my interests at all.
b) The readers may subscribe to a topic orientated feed or just the summary feed.
c) There is still a summary page where all information merge together.
Last but not least I moved this website to a new server which should serve the pages faster and more reliable. I think I moved all the contents and rewrote all the links. If you miss some page or found a broken link just drop a note.
